Our Mission

Morningsky Initiative's mission is creating a sacred space for healing and restoration. The central purposed for the organization is to work on projects pertaining to:

  • Healing Trauma work with Native American individuals, families and communities;
  • Decolonizing education and pastoral care through research, theory and practice;
  • Education of spiritual leaders, counselors, medical staff and faith communities related to Native American Ministries, history and decolonization.
Current projects

- May 2023: Awarded a $23,479 grant from the Foundation of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Educators for continued research on the Healing with Dignity Project. Our project was selected in this the inaugural year of the Justice, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Grants Program

- Awarded $50,000 from American Theological Studies Luce Grant in partnership with Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University for a symposium entitled, "Healing With Dignity: Spiritual and Pastoral Care in Native America. The event was held in March 2023 in Dallas, Texas with 30 Native American participants.

- Awarded $10,000 from the United Methodist Church Discipleship Ministries for ten Native American clergy to attend the symposium in Dallas, Texas.

- Awarded $8,000 from the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Foundation for a small group of Native American Clergy and healers to begin discussion on how to decolonize how we think about Native American spiritual and pastoral care. This event took place in Plymouth, Minnesota in September of 2022.
